Drawing on company histories, memoirs, and interviews, this book traces the history of the men of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Mobile Radio Broadcasting Companies during World War II. It begins with the establishment of a secret camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the specialized training in military intelligence and propaganda services that the men received there. It then follows these men abroad: to further training in Britain, to the D-Day landings, Battle of the Bulge, Conquest of Germany, and liberation of the concentration camps. It includes stories from those German- and Austrian-born men from Sharpe who returned in U.S. army uniform to their old hometowns, and concludes with a discussion of the soldiers' immediate postwar activities as translators, interpreters, radio broadcasters, and journalists in the American zones of occupation in Germany and Austria.

The book is enriched with new material--including photographs--acquired through personal interviews and correspondence with nine veterans of the camp.

Beverley Driver Eddy is professor emerita of German at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

21 colleges participated in this study which looks closely at how colleges and universities are complying with U.S. export control regulations and related strictures. The study presents detailed data on staffing, budgets, spending on information, legal services and conferences, use of government and private sector resources and consultants, and other facets of the efforts by colleges in the United States to comply with U.S, export control regulations that seek to control the outflow of critical technologies, particularly those with a military or dual use application. Among other issues covered: experience of hacking attacks on data subject to export controls, controls on foreign students and scholars, restrictions on information dissemination, interface with the US government export control bureaucracy, development of risk assessment reports and much more. Just a few of the report’s many findings are that: • Colleges named as models for others in export control compliance practices include MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, which were named multiple times. • Institutions in the sample devoted a considerable amount of staff time to export controls; a mean of 1,560 staff hours and a median of 1,850. • 27.27% of the organizations sampled have used an outside attorney for any issue involving export controls in the past year; 33.33% of research universities had done so. • Only 4.5% of organizations sampled have made their own training videos about export controls compliance. • A mean of 86.05% and a median of 95% of the research performed by the colleges sampled falls under the “Fundamental Research” exclusion which excludes it from the purview of export controls.

The marginal headings are a type of paragraph headings within the pages. They describe what a certain paragraph is focused on. In earlier editions of the textbook, various types of indexes of the marginal headings were appended to the textbook. In modern editions, probably after 1932, the marginal headings were no longer indexed. In some cases, an index of words was added, as a type of concordance. However, in most cases a single word is insufficient to describe a specific thought or subject. The subheadings, however, are ideally suited to illustrate the point that Mary Baker Eddy is making in a paragraph or groups of paragraphs. I, personally, find the subheadings fascinating, and highly useful as a quick reference for finding Mary Baker Eddy’s answers to specific subjects. In preparing the index, I dropped the convention to list the headings alphabetically sorted. I simply list them in the sequence in which they appear in the textbook, prefixed with the chapter numbers and page numbers. In addition, I have also created an index of the headers of the testimonies of healing in the chapter “Fruitage” of the textbook.
